Fox News has categorized the race as a toss-up. The state senator filed for divorce from Paxton in July 2025. In her filing, Paxton said that her husband had "committed adultery" and that their marriage had "become insupportable because of discord or conflict of personalities." In a social media post, she wrote that "after 38 years of marriage, I filed for divorce on biblical grounds." "I believe marriage is a sacred covenant and I have earnestly pursued reconciliation," she added. "But in light of recent discoveries, I do not believe that it honors God or is loving to myself, my children, or Ken to remain in the marriage."
