From the classical era through the Middle Ages and into Victorian England, people valued consistency so much that they named their children after the virtue: Constantia, Constance, Konstanz. In today’s febrile world, it seems appropriate that the name has become unfashionable, with Constance in particular dropping out of the UK’s top 400 girls’ names during the last official count.
